50 Years of Creativity
One of the Coast’s most celebrated art associations will mark its 50th anniversary with a very special exhibition: “50 Years of Creativity”.
To be held from Saturday 29th April to Monday 8th May, the exhibition will celebrate the creative talents of Buderim Craft Cottage’s 300 plus fine artists and artisan craftsmen in a quite unique way.
The artists, including painters, silversmiths, textile and yarns artists, potters and calligraphers, have each created a work mounted on a 30cm square framed “canvas”. Over 200 works of these dimensions will be hung in the Cottage’s two galleries.
But there the similarity between the individual pieces ends, with artists using a huge range of techniques and materials to create their art works. Some of the canvases have been created using traditional fine art media such as oils, acrylics, pen and ink. Other “canvases” have been be formed in silver and other metals or in wheel thrown and hand-built ceramics. Some artists have created “pictures” and collages from silk, felt, and other textiles, interwoven with yarns and fibres.
Cottage President Jan Nelson says of the exhibition” it is a tremendous challenge for artists to create works on this small scale; in particular for those artists who are more familiar with working in three dimensions”. We wanted to demonstrate the breadth of creative talent and technique developed in the Cottage over 50 years, but we also wanted to display it with a degree of unity”. “The result is over 200 very diverse works, but all on the same scale”.
The exhibition will be open to the public for 10 days only. Most of the art works will be available for sale, although a few pieces will be retained in the Cottage collection to mark this anniversary.
