Maroochy RSL: Eye For Detail
Since its establishment in 1932, Maroochy RSL has cemented itself as the best in the business. Just shy of its 90th anniversary, it continues to evolve with the times and provide its guests with delicious food, service and top class events.
The friendly smiles and service begins the minute you walk through the doors of Maroochy RSL. A sweeping staircase links the stylish bistro and cafe to the luxury Events Centre on level one. As you climb the stairs your eyes are instantly drawn to the spacious foyer with natural light filtering through the vast windows.
“When we set up our events we are always looking at the space and how well it works,” says event supervisor, Kate Bisset.
Kate works alongside event manager, Jill Pearson, who oversees a highly skilled and tight knit team. No detail is too big or small for the events team – developing, planning and coordinating every detail to make a vision come to life.
“We treat every single event with passion and attention to detail, regardless of its size,” says Jill.
Born and raised in Liverpool in England’s North West, Jill found her calling in the hospitality industry at the ripe age of 15. She quickly made a name for herself through her hard work and attention to detail, working in Liverpool’s top international hotels.
“I’ve worked with lots of high profile guests and celebrities,” she says. “I wanted to be in hospitality since I was a little girl.”
Jill was poached from one high end job to the next as she followed her dreams, before packing up her life, with then boyfriend (now husband), leaving Liverpool for Australia’s endless summers for a year-long working holiday. The pair never left and now call the Sunshine Coast home.
Jill’s invaluable knowledge of the industry has helped her mentor staff from Sydney to the Coast. She’s also made her mark at Maroochy RSL, as Kate chimes in and says she looks to Jill as a mentor too. What many regular customers don’t know is that both Kate and Jill are celebrating 10 years of working at Maroochy RSL.
“The team is great. I just enjoy coming to work, it’s a passion,” says Kate. “It’s my work-family, we all care about what we do, I love it.”
The Maroochy RSL Events Centre prides itself on its attention to detail, which sets it apart from its competition.
“Every venue does conferences to some level but we can operate on a mass scale. We have one large ball room which divides into four separate rooms. So we can run meetings from as small as 10 people, up to 450,” says Jill.
From business seminars and conferences, to trade shows and exhibitions, the Events Centre works with each individual to create the right space for them. It also has the luxury of offering large scale cocktail parties catering up to 1000 people.
“We honestly believe, hand on heart, we are the best on the Sunshine Coast in terms of having the complete package,” says Jill.
While it’s a big statement, Maroochy RSL has become the talk of the town for its exceptional food. From a quick bite at the cafe, dining in at the bistro to its banquet menu, the chefs have set a new benchmark for club food.
The delicious seasonal specials are the creation of executive chef Gareth Collins, who’s worked with some of the culinary world’s biggest names. If you head upstairs, Events head chef Darren Pearson is solely dedicated to catering the finest food for any style of event.
“Having complete confidence in what is coming from the kitchen and being delivered to your guests and also having confidence in the standard of service is great,” says Jill.
The new year at Maroochy RSL is shaping up to be one for the seasoned socialites. Live music, pies and pavlova kick-off Australia Day or in February a wine tasting masterclass might be more your style. There’s no better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than dining in a pop-up French-style bistro – “A dinner and show with Elton John lookalike Greg Andrew coming up will also be amazing.”
Jill says,”Maroochy RSL has exciting plans for the future, which will complement the new Maroochydore City Centre, so watch this space.”
“We are just fresh off the back of a recent renovation and we are moving forward with plans to develop into something even better.”
