Twins Kayla and Meaghan Cummings always had a dream to start a fashion label together so at the end of high school, the pair studied a Diploma of Fashion Design and Technology where they learnt how to build their skills within the fashion industry. In 2013, they launched their label Between Me n You.

profile: Who was your earliest influence when it comes to fashion?
kayla: Our earliest influence would be our Nanna, as she handmade our clothes for us when we were children and she also taught us how to sew.
meaghan: We were also influenced by many Australian designers such as Alex Perry, Collette Dinnigan and Sass & Bide, as it encouraged us to stay true to Australian made.

profile: How would you describe your own fashion style?
kayla: I feel my own style is casual chic. I like to wear things that are comfortable, but nice at the same time.
meaghan: I don’t believe I have a certain style, I like to mix styles together depending on how I feel, what the occasion and season is.

profile: What is your favourite season to design for and why?
kayla: Summer is our favourite season to design for as we enjoy designing for our climate and using bright colours.
meaghan: Summer for us is the highlight of the year, it really shows our creative side and it is something we always look forward to showcasing.

profile: Where does your inspiration come from when designing?
kayla: Our inspiration would definitely come from living on the Sunshine Coast, we try to create and design for our climate and the people who live here.
meaghan: We are also inspired by different sewing techniques as they help to develop and expand our garment designs.

profile: What is the must-have fashion item we should all have?
kayla: The oversized shirt, it is so versatile it can worn with anything, over leggings, skinny jeans or even tucked into a skirt or trousers.
meaghan: A clutch, it is the easiest way to dress up any look.

profile: What do you always have in your handbag?
kayla: A small snack and the shade of lipstick I am wearing that day.
meaghan: Lip balm and a small make-up kit for quick touch ups.
