What are the benefits of acupuncture?

As one of the longest standing health care systems in the world, acupuncture has been used successfully for thousands of years, helping to restore normal functions within the body. Acupuncture also focuses on disease prevention and minimising disease progression, and as a restorative holistic therapy, considers the ‘whole’ person and not just the symptoms.

A treatment involves the insertion of very fine, sterile, single use needles to gently and painlessly stimulate specific areas (acupuncture points) of the body. The activation of these points has a positive effect on the pathways used by the body to transport information and energy for everyday functions. Resting for 20-30 minutes during the treatment is very relaxing and allows the body to experience the full benefits.
Although acupuncture can influence all major body systems, it has primary effects on:

  • promoting blood flow
  • reducing inflammation and relieving pain, by stimulating the release of natural pain killers
  • restoring homeostasis (balance), all ‘dis-ease’ is linked to an interference of this balance
  • reducing stress, by helping to regulate the ‘rest and digest’ aspect of the nervous system

Suitable for all ages and stages of life, a wide variety of health concerns can positively benefit from acupuncture, helping us feel and look our best, and improve our quality of life.
