Matthew Flinders Anglican College is inviting Sunshine Coast families to come along to its Flinders Fair to enjoy food, fair rides and fireworks on Saturday, 25 August.
Hundreds of locals are expected to celebrate the Flinders Fair, held from 1pm to 7pm on Flinders’ 22-hectare campus fringed by rainforest in Buderim.
Principal Stuart Meade said the Flinders Fair – held for the 23rd time in the College’s 29-year history – was a positive way to bring the College community and the local community together.
“We want to encourage our Flinders students to have a strong community spirit, and this is a great opportunity to connect with local residents and holiday-makers in a fun, safe and family-friendly environment,” Mr Meade said.
“It’s wonderful to see our beautiful College campus transformed into a colourful and vibrant event space and to see families relaxing and spending quality time together outdoors.”
The 2018 Flinders Fair theme is ‘Green!’ to encourage fair-goers to think and act sustainably and to protect our environment.
Flinders P&F President Kym Cousins said funds raised at the Flinders Fair would go towards the Flinders Speakers Series, the Young Endeavour Scholarship and other projects to benefit students and the College community.
“The Flinders Fair offers a diverse mix of amusement rides, food stalls, gifts, games, entertainment and activities to suit all ages,” Mrs Cousins said.
“Last year, some of the most popular stalls offered home-baked treats, second-hand clothing and books, show bags and the jumping castles.”
This year’s stalls will also feature quality handmade items like soaps, jewellery, art, soft furnishings, and woodcraft, as well as plants for sale.
Activities include the Cent Auction; Bike ‘n’ Blend where guests can ride a bike to make their own smoothie; Springfree trampoline jumping; and face painting.
The entertainment on offer showcases Flinders music students, including the Saxophone Ensemble, College Band, College String Orchestra, Wind Symphony, Middle School Jazz Band and Stage band.
Rides include the Giant Chairs, Super Slide, Rock Wall, Mini Jeeps, Horse ‘N’ Tugs, Land Train, Chair-O-Plane, The Maze, Lost Temple Castle, Wrecking Ball, Mechanical Bull, and the Gladiator Duel.
Food stalls will sell pavlova and coffee, Devonshire tea, sushi, fairy floss, curries, nachos, Middle Eastern platters, pure milk chocolates, wood-fired pizza and plenty of other delicious refreshments.
The fireworks at 6:20pm will provide a dazzling finale to the 2018 Flinders Fair.Click here for more info
