Local author Taryn Bashford believes that instead of bombarding our teens with images of beauty they should live up to, let's bombard them with new role models. Join her and a panel of elite athletes (from QLD's U18 tennis captain, Kristina Lane, to our local Commonwealth Games sprint hopeful, Jane Larkin, to two elite triathletes, Annelise Jefferies & Chloe McLennan) where she'll be launching her debut novel, The Harper Effect, and chatting to this panel to dig into what it takes to be a star athlete - or indeed what it takes to be a star in anything you choose to be. It doesn't only have to be sport.
The Harper Effect, published by Pan Macmillan, is a coming-of-age novel set in the world of professional tennis and it's for readers aged 12 to 99. It's the story of a girl who learns to win from a boy who has lost everything. Think Million Dollar Baby or The Karate Kid mixed with the movie Wimbledon.
In time for the Australian Open, Annie from Annie's Books will be serving strawberries & cream with bubbly, and there'll be a chance to ask these athletes any burning questions you may have. Taryn will also be signing copies of The Harper Effect and answering questions about writing and how to get published.
This is a free event. Please RSVP if you possibly can for catering purposes: Annie on 5448 2053 or email@example.com
